2007 GCV Horticulture Award of Merit Winners

The Horticultural Award of Merit is awarded to individual members for exceptional accomplishment in horticulture, both personally and in the community at large.

Rachael Hollis (Mrs. Joseph E. Hollis) Spotswood Garden Club
When Rachael joined The Spotswood Garden Club, one of her goals was to enter and win awards in each of the GCV flower shows: Daffodil, Lily, and Rose.  Rachael achieved her goals and won blue ribbons and silver trophies in all shows, but the rose became her passion.  Rachael has shared her passion for roses and other plants with her friends, her club and her community inspiring and leading others to make a difference.  She is indeed a "Garden Angel".

Mary Eades (Mrs. Peter G.  Eades)  Rivanna Garden Club
Mary Eades is a fountain of horticultural knowledge, especially in the area of trees and shrubs, and her passion, Japanese maples.  As a Master Gardener Mary has given over 800 volunteer hours.  She has not missed a single Horticulture Field Day or Workshop since she joined.  This June Mary will be lead hostess for Horticultural Field Day in Charlottesville, it promises to be wonderful.  Mary is a hands on gardener.

Eleanor Towers (Mrs. Thomas R. Towers)   Tuckahoe Garden Club
A conservationist and horticulturist, Eleanor has twin passions.  She has studied propagation extensively and hosted propagation workshops, sharing her knowledge with others.  Eleanor also led the GCV 's 2007 Legislative Day in Richmond.  Her knowledge of current conservation issues have been a boon to all of us.
