Christ Church - Middlesex County

56 Christ Church Lane

Christchurch, VA  23031

804-758-2006

Christ Church is located in the town of Christchurch, its namesake, in Middlesex County just south of the Rappahannock River. Founded in 1666, it served as the parish of several illustrious colonial families. The parishioners built a new church in 1714. That building was abandoned after the Revolution and returned to use just prior to the Civil War after substantial modification. In 1940, the vestry requested the Garden Club's assistance in restoring the grounds and the Garden Club responded by replacing an existing wire fence with an ornamental brick wall on the north and west sides of the property, parallel to the adjacent roadways. Bricks and coping stones found on the site were duplicated to build the wall. Native woods frame the other two sides of the grounds. Descendants of the families buried in the churchyard restored the handsome tombstones and monuments in 1967.
