The 2014 Common Wealth Awards were presented at the Board of Governors Meeting in October. The first-place award was given to The Ashland Garden Club for its project at The Ashland Train Station, a hub of activity in the center of Ashland as many take the Amtrak train to D.C. and New York from this historic station. The award check will be used to restore the plantings and to repair the walkways as well as purchase benches and tables for picnics and train watching.

The second-place award was given to the four Richmond Garden Clubs, the Boxwood, James River, Three Chopt and Tuckahoe garden clubs, who came together to work on their project. They are installing a walkway and additional native plants and trees along The Canal Walk in Great Shiplock Park. The award check will be used to continue their work in this historic area.
