Since 2010, the Garden Club has partnered with Thomas Jefferson's Corporation for Poplar Forest to restore the mulberry allee and ornamental clumps of trees and shrubs that Jeffersons notes indicated he planted there. Part of the work includes careful archaeology that has revealed the exact locations of the mulberry trees and the outline of the clumps. The completion of field work at the west allee allowed for planting this spring of the Paper Mulberries just where Jefferson planted them. Work is ongoing and the third phase just approved will tackle the study of Jeffersons carriage circle at the front entrance.
